Romanian – Bulgarian Wine Tour
Romania and Bulgaria stands out in the wine world as a unique, blessed with its remoteness, beauty, unspoiled virgin nature and an incredibly diverse range of climates suited to quality wine production. Would you like to taste the latest vintage in the barrel, or a special vintage wine the cellar master is proud of? For wine lovers, it just doesn’t get any better than this wine tour.
Bucharest – Horezu: After breakfast we will enjoy a walking city tour. Let’s spend an hour walking around in town and doing some shopping or enjoying the lively Lipscani Street, in the old city area. Lunch at one of the best restaurants of the capital, Caru cu Bere and after departure we shall discover the “still unseen and unknown” region of Oltenia, its wines and culture. On the way we will visit several middle-ages Wallachian monasteries, Horezu, Govora and Bistrita. We will spend the night in a beautiful 350 year- old house. In the evening we invite you to Maldar Manor, an example of old-fashioned Oltenian boyar charm. The estate, situated near Horezu on the lower slopes of Magura Slatioara in Maldaresti, welcomes you to an authentic kula, where every nook is alive with stories of knights and ladies of the past. Typical Romanian dinner like in old times with local wines and accommodation at Maldar Manor.
Departure to Craiova. Today we continue our wine adventure and drive to Dragasani to visit Stirbey Winery. For over 300 years the wines of Prince Stirbey’s family are grown according to well-developed principles, preserved by each generation. Wine tasting and lunch. In the afternoon we visit and taste the wines from the vineyards of the National Bank governor CASA ISARESCU and continue to Craiova, Romania’s 6th largest city and capital of Dolj County. Overnight in Craiova. Accommodation in a 4* hotel. Free dinner.
Craiova – Calafat. In the morning we will finish the city tour of Craiova and drive further through the region of Oltenia. Short stop at a very special place – the Palace of the Romanian Socialist Republic – a hotel built in the Old Communist times by the Romanian Communist Party. There we will see some perfect communist relics. We continue to the south and visit one of the best wineries: Oprisor and Starmina Winery. Light lunch and wine tasting. In the afternoon we will arrive in Cetate, a very special place where we will enjoy typical Romanian food and gypsy music. The owner is Mircea Dinescu, a well-known Romanian publicist, similar to the famous Vaclav Havel for the Czechs. Accommodation at Cetate.
Today we go to Bulgaria over the Danube bridge. After crossing the bridge we will head to the village of Falkovets, where we take time to see one of the wonders of the world – the Belogradchik Rocks and the fortress. After that we have wine tasting and lunch in a boutique winery, which produces its wines only for export. Arrival late in the evening in Starosel. Traditional Bulgarian dinner with a folklore program.
Plovdiv and surroundings. After breakfast we will visit the oldest Thracian underground temple dating back to 4-5 century before Christ. From the top of the hill the tourists can enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Valley of Roses and Thracian Kings. At lunch time we have a tour of the winery. We will enjoy wine tasting and special dish called cheverme. In the early afternoon we will travel to Plovdiv – the oldest city in Europe and one of the oldest in the world. We have a sightseeing walking tour of most prominent sights of Plovdiv (rich in history from Roman and Thracian times). We will see the Roman stadium, the Roman Amphitheatre and 2 houses in the Old Town. After that we leave either for Ustina or Brestovitsa village for wine tasting and overnight. The difference between the two wineries is the market segment, where they operate. Both wineries are high quality and very close to Plovdiv. Dinner in the winery restaurant. Overnight in Ustina/Brestovitsa.
Plovdiv – Elenovo. After breakfast we leave for the village of Elenovo, where one of the top Bulgarian wineries is situated. We take a tour of the winery, wine tasting and lunch. We have free time in this unbelievable place. You can visit the boutique winery, see magical landscapes, enjoy tranquility and taste quality wines. In the afternoon we visit an authentic rural house for an afternoon traditional meal and visit the oldest mound in Europe and another one with an authentic golden chariot. For dinner we combine meals with wines under the guidance of the Michelin star cook. Overnight in the winery hotel in Elenovo.
Plovdiv – Burgas: We travel to Pomorie for accommodation in Via Pontika winery. We will enjoy a tour of Nessebar with its most prominent sights as an UNESCO town. At lunch time we have wine tasting in the winery. In the evening we travel to Burgas; free time and for dinner we taste sea specialties in a local restaurant. Overnight in Via Pontika.
Burgas – Balcik: After breakfast we travel to the Northern Black Sea coast to Balchik. Accommodation will be in one of the golf courses in the region (either Lighthouse or Thracian cliffs). Lunch will be at the Black Sea, in a very special restaurant. We take time to see the Botanical Garden and Queen Mary’s Castle in Balchik. In the evening we will have dinner and wine tasting of locally produced wines from the region of Dobrudja in the Prince Nikolay Winery. Overnight.
Balcik – Constanta or Bucharest : Today we cross again the Danube and continue our journey going back to Romania. The first stop will be in Murfatlar for wine tasting and lunch. In the afternoon, we depart for Constanta. An ancient metropolis and Romania’s largest sea port, Constanta traces its history some 2,500 years ago. Visit of the city, the Archeological Museum, Ovidiu’s Square, the Roman Mosaics, the Great Mosque, the Genoese Lighthouse, and the Casino. Then you can either choose to go back to Bucharest or continue to the Danube Delta. Farewell dinner in a special or in a very nice Boat Hotel in the Danube Delta.

Extension to the Danube Delta. One-day motorboat trip in the Danube Delta. Today we will discover the true beauty of the region that is found in the wild landscape of the delta. During a day-long cruise we will be taken through the backwaters and tributaries to enjoy its incredible wildlife. Lunch in the Danube Delta, and a very special farewell dinner with local fish and obviously… local white wines !! Same accommodation.
Departure to Bucharest and flight back home.
