Music Festival in Moldova “Martisor”
Spring is the most expected season in Moldova. Coming of the spring is accompanied by celebration named “Martisor”. This celebration starts on the 1st of March when people give to each other little red & white mascots – “martisor”. The name on martisor derives from “Martie”, translated as “March” from Romanian. People put these little mascots to their clothes for the whole month. On the 31st of March the martisors are taken away and tied to the blossoming fruit trees. Martisors are believed to bring happiness and success for the whole year.

In the evening – the great opening of the International Music Festival “Martisor”.
Today you’ll see the beauty of the Moldova’ countryside and will visit Orheiul Vechi (Cave Monastery) which is “arguably Moldova’s most fantastic sight”. Here you’ll see an Orthodox cave monastery called “St. Maria Dormata” expanded and modified inside the cliffs by the monks over the centuries ago and preserved in a functional state. You’ll have excursion about this fascinating complex and then have lunch with folk program in the Moldovan family’ pension located in the neighborhood village (optional). After Orheiul Vechi you’ll visit a monastery Curchi, the real pearl of our religious life. Here you’ll see some churches, and the “Virgin’s Assumption” Cathedral, built by the drawings of genius architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Return to Chisinau.In the evening – the 2nd day of the International Music Festival “Martisor”.
After breakfast we’ll start to Purcari winery, located in the South-Eastern part of Moldova. Centuries-old traditions in viticulture and wine-making of Purcari area formed the basis of a modern wine-making enterprise – Purcari, which is the only owner and keeper of Purcari zone elite wines production. The Purcari wine-making enterprise looks like a real chateau and it is the only place where people can get a notion of peculiar natural conditions along with the knowledge about the history, secrets and traditions of making legendary Purcari wines. You’ll be impressed by the combination of the chateau’s royal-like interiors and HI-Tech. Excursion, wine testing and lunch. Today you’ll visit Saharna and Tipova monasteries – 110 km north from Chisinau. Saharna «Holy Trinity» monastery is the major pilgrimage center of Moldova, located among the picturesque steep valley, on the right bank of the Dniester River. The relics of St. Macarie are being preserved here and at the top of one of the rocks there is a chapel, where you can worship and see the foot print left by St. Mary according to the local legend. From the rocky peaks you will admire beautiful landscapes.
After lunch in the village in neighborhood, you’ll visit Tipova monastery – one of the most visited sites located on a rocky bank of the Dniester River. It is a wonderful complex of historical monuments and natural landscapes that affects by its pure beauty; it is an “isle” of the untouched nature of Moldova. The monastery complex consists of 15 caves on the dizzying height in the middle of a huge rock. An active monastery is located in the upper part of the complex, but the cave complex remains attractive for both pilgrims and tourists. Return to Chisinau. In the evening – the 4th day of the International Music Festival “Martisor”.
