Bucharest – Bulgaria and a touch of the Danube Delta

This trip is for those who want to see the cultural heritage of Bulgaria and enjoy the beauty of the Danube Delta. If you are only interested in the Danube Delta you can simply cut the Bulgarian part of the trip and enjoy more of the Danube Delta. If you book the trip at the beginning of June you have the chance to see the rose harvest in Bulgaria which is a once per year unique tradition.

Day 1

Once you arrive in Bucharest, you will be transferred to a 3 star hotel where a welcome cocktail party and dinner waits for you.

Day 2

Bucharest – Giurgiu – Russe – Veliko Tirnovo, over the Danube River (220 km). We departure to Veliko Tirnovo in the morning in order to arrive to this old city in the afternoon. On the way we will visit the most beautiful orthodox church in Bulgaria and have lunch nearby. Once we arrive in Veliko Tirnovo, we check-in at 3 star Hotel. After check-in we begin a walking tour of the ancient city’s and visit the old citadel within the city. Dinner in the old city traditional Bulgarian restaurant.

Day 3

Today we leave for Plovdiv which is a 150 km drive. Plovdiv was at first a Roman city and the Roman structures are well preserved here making it a great place to visit. The Roman open amphitheater is still there and each year the Verdi Festival is held in the old theater ruins. On the way to Plovdiv we’ll stop to visit the open village museum Etara and have lunch there. We’ll also see on the way the old Thracian tombs and ruins and the capital of roses Kazanluk. In Kazanluk we visit an rose oil farm and take pictures of the beautiful fields of roses. Once we arrive in Plovdiv we will check-in at a 4 star hotel and have a traditional Bulgarian dinner with a folk show.

Day 4

Plovdiv – Varna – Balchik – Constanta.Today we start our journey to Constanta, the Romanian harbor city on the Black Sea. On the way to this harbour, we stop at Balchik for visiting  the small castle of the Romanian Queen Mary. This castle has a small, but unique garden near the Black Sea. We’ll have lunch in Balchik and after continue our journey to Constanta. Constanta was originally a Greek city in ancient times when the Greeks were colonizing the shorelines of Europe and Asia Minor. We shall visit the city and its archeological museum. Also you have the chance to see an ancient Roman mosaic in Constanta. Dinner and accommodation will be in a four star hotel.

Day 5

Constanta – Danube Delta (150km). Today is our last day on land as our second part of the journey starts by visiting the Danube Delta. You will be accommodated on floating hotels that navigate down the Danube Delta so you can enjoy the natural beauty of this nature reserve. Lunch will be served on the boat with a lot of traditional fish dishes.

Day 6

Danube Delta. After breakfast we’ll hop on our small motorboats to visit the Sakhalin Islands and explore its natural beauty. After visiting this island you’ll see that spot where the Danube River falls into the Black Sea. For lunch you come back to your floating hotel around 03.00 pm. After lunch we’ll proceed to the Perivolovca Lake where we stop  for overnight. Dinner will be served at 09.00 pm and after dinner you can join us for different entertaining  activities prepared for you.

Day 7

Today you’ll have a unique opportunity to see the sun rising from the lake. Of course you’ll also have to wake up very early to catch this unique moment. Breakfast will be served on the boat-hotel as usually. In the afternoon you have few variants of activities: or to  go on motorboats down small channels along the Danube Delta and or try yourself in fishing. For dinner – traditional fish soup. We hope you’ll have great time.

Day 8

The boat-hotel departs towards Murighiol. Before we start our trip to Bucharest, we have farewell lunch on the boat. In the morning we will enjoy our trip on motorboats  down the Delta canals. We disembark our boat around 02.30 pm and hopefully arrive in Bucharest at 07.00 pm. We trust you enjoyed the trip with us and hope to see you again.
