7 Days in the Republic of Moldova
A new country to be discovered. Your local guide will meet you at the airport. Check-in. After the check in you will have a tour of the capital of Moldova – Chisinau city. During the tour you will visit: the Central Park, the monument of Stephen the Great, the Great National Assembly Square, the Arch of Triumph, the “Nativity” Cathedral.
After breakfast you will visit Orheiul Vechi, which is “arguably Moldova’s most fantastic heritage site”. Here you will admire an Orthodox cave monastery called “St. Maria Dormata”, which has been expanded and modified inside the cliffs by the monks over the centuries. You will have an excursion within this fascinating complex and then lunch with folk program in a traditional Moldovan family pension located in the village (optional). After leaving Orheiul Vechi we will continue the tour by visiting the monastery Curchi, the pearl of their religious life. Here you will visit some churches and the “Virgin’s Assumption” Cathedral. Return to Chisinau.
After breakfast, we start our trip to Soroca, the Gypsy “capital” of the Republic of Moldova with a sizable Gypsy minority. First of all we will visit the Soroca fortress which is a unique monument of defensive architecture in Europe. Then we will continue by visiting the “Gypsies’ hill” , where we will see the architecture of local gypsy houses (Palaces) and visit the “Candle of Gratitude” monument. Return to Chisinau.
After breakfast you will be taken to Comrat, the capital of Gagauzia. Gagauzia is a region inhabited by a Turkish community that became Christian over the years. The Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauzia is inhabited by a Turkish community that speak a Turkish dialect. They were christened during the history and have autonomous rights. The tour includes visiting the Monument of Lenin and “Saint John” Cathedral. Lunch in the local restaurant specialized in traditional Gagauz cuisine (optional). Next stop – visit to a “colhoz” – a type of state-run farm, where we will have lunch, and experience the old communist lifestyle. On the way to the Victory collective farm you will visit “Beshalma” Ethnography Museum, where you will learn about the origin of Gagauzian people. Return to Chisinau.
Today you will visit Transnistria – the state that doesn’t officially exist. You will start this interesting trip after breakfast. It takes just 1 hour to the border with this breakaway region. Day trip to BENDER (visiting the fortress) and TIRASPOL (capital of Transnistria and the second biggest city in Moldova after Chisinau) – where the old USSR still exists. The city tour includes: The Supreme Soviet Building (Parliament), The Lenin Monument, The Square of Soviet Constitution, walk down the main avenue, World War II & Afghanistan War Memorial etc. You may also visit the KVINT distillery and even taste local cognac. Lunch (optional). In the afternoon, we will travel to Purcari winery, located in the south-eastern part of Moldova. Here we shall have dinner followed by a wine tasting. Accommodation in Purcari Chateau.
Today you will start with a visit of the largest winery in the world – Milestii Mici, which is also mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records (wine tasting and lunch with folk music). We shall continue our journey to Capriana monastery (the oldest church building in Moldova) and Hincu convent (The convent includes a beautiful cathedral and a holy water spring). Return to Chisinau.
• The order of the activities can be changed based on weather conditions, or other conditions that might appear or be asked by the guests. The guests may change the daily program, the activities, do some others that can occasionally be done.
• In this region there are several important religious and traditional (even pre-Christian) feasts and people can take part in them.
