An european region which should be discovered - Galizia

Galizia – a region of an amazing mixture of cultures and religions.
If someone will tell you that there were at least 6 different religions would you believe it ?
And all people have lived in peace for centuries, especially 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
You will be amazed of the variety of architectural styles, traditions, places of worship, etc.
Also you will cross twice the Romanian- Ukrainian border in order to visit 3 historical regions: Bucovina, north Galizia, Maramures.

Day 2, Sunday 19th July: Flight to Iasi from Viena.

Arrival at noon, accommodation in a 4* Hotel, and city tour in the afternoon. Iasi was the capital of Moldavia before the union with Walachia in 1859 when the two countries formed Romania. Nowadays, Iasi is the third largest University center in Romania, heart of the Romanian orthodox church, and an impressive city. Dinner in Golia Monastery and we will enjoy a vocal concert with byzantine Music

Day 2, Monday 20th July: Departure towards Bucovina.

Visit the north part of Moldavia. On the way we will visit the "protocol" monk and nun monasteries, Neamt and Agapia, where we also will have lunch. Arriving afternoon in Gura Humourului. Dinner and accommodation in a 4* Hotel Roata, not before visiting the Voronet monastery, one of the 5 outside painted monasteries, which are in UNESCO patrimony.

Day 3, Tuesday 21th July: Visit of another 2 monasteries with outside paintings.

Moldovita and Sucevita, having lunch in Moldovita. Also during the day we will visit a local artist who paints Easter eggs, and another one doing a special black ceramic. The journey continues to Czernowitz the old capital of Bucovina during the Austrain Empire times. Dinner and accommodation in a 4* Hotel in Czernowitz.
Czernowitz was a famous University center and place of birth of one of the famous jew poets, Paul Celan. Here we can trace a strong Jewish culture, the synagogue, the Jewish cemetery, etc.

Day 4, Wednesday 22th July: Czernowitz and its surroundings

After breakfast we drive to Chotin and Kamjanez- Podilskyj, 2 citadels with an important role in the history of Ukraine, Moldavia, Poland, Turkish Empire and Russians. Lunch in this city, and afternoon departure back to Cernowitz where we will start the city tour, and visits of the Mitropolit Palace and the University.

Day 5, Thursday 23th July: Today we discover the village of Jaremtscha.

Drive through the Carpathians Mountains, where a special minority lives, the Hutzules, and visit a monument dedicated to them. Lunch in a specific Hutzul Restaurant and we drive towards Lemberg (Lvov)

Day 6, Friday 24th July: Walking city tour of Lemberg.

Visiting its russian orthodocs church, market place, Opera building, etc. We will visit also the Beer Museum, having a beer tasting, and enjoy a special dinner with medieval program (riders and knights). Same accommodation.

Day 7, Saturday 25th July: Visit of the open village museum.

Depart to Mukatschewo, where we will have lunch, and we will cross back the Romanian border in Sighet and continue our drive for another 20 minutes till we meet our host, Doina, in a place where heaven has reached the earth.
Local dishes will be served for dinner, and the national drink, tuica, a kind of plum brandy.

Day 8, Sunday 26th July: Today we discover the wodden culture of Maramures.

Wooden churches, wooden gates, etc. We will drive to Cluj and on the way we visit 2 local artists, one family, may be sharing a glas of tuica with them, see the traditional way they wash their clothes. Late afternoon we will arrive in Cluj, short walking city tour, and specific hungarian dinner will be served. Cluj is now the second largest city in Romania, the second biggest University center, and its known in Romania as the baroque city.
Accommodation in the heart of the city in the 4* Hotel Agape.

Day 9, Monday 27th July: Departure back home.
